60 Over Sixty Awards
Sixty Over 60 Awards Luncheon
It’s been a busy few weeks here in Nerses Photo Studio, and one of the events we covered was the second annual 60 Over Sixty awards luncheon, a celebration of some of the amazing seniors in our community, who give back in a myriad of ways.
It was an event that was at once positive, nerve wracking and incredibly fun.
The positivity came in a variety of forms, and started with the opening remarks.
Arie Vrugteveen: Executive Director at Retire-At-Home Services St. Catharines
Arie talked about how all too frequently, seniors are portrayed in a negative light, a potential strain on the medical system and other social networks. Modeling this event after 30 Under Thirty, Arie decided to showcase and appreciate seniors who are contributing amazing amounts of time and effort into causes ranging from Habitat for Humanity to the Salvation Army.
The luncheon also doubled as a showcase with various vendors offering services in all kinds of different fields.
The fine folks at Meridian Credit Union were there, friendly as always.
Cooper County Foods brought in an amazing cake to sample.
Other vendors included the Niagara Senior Services Network, Pleasantview Home & Cemetery, River Road Retirement Residence, Lancaster, Brooks and Welch L.L.P, among many others.
Then came the nerve wracking part. This year, Nerses Photo Studio was thrilled to be an awards level sponsor. But it did mean taking on a new role: Setting down the camera and stepping behind the microphone.
All kidding aside, it was a privilege to be able to honor seniors in our community.
And then came the fun! Once the awards were handed out, we were treated to a champagne luncheon. The Holiday Inn Suites and Convention Centre provided an amazing meal.
I guess there’s only one thing left to say.
