One of My Favourite Types of Projects is Restorations
One of my favourite types of project is restorations, for one simple reason: There are already so many stories attached to the image. Restorations are incredibly popular during the holiday season, because they’re a great gift for the proverbial person who has everything.
A woman came into Nerses Photo with a photo and a story. When she was a child, she used to practice every day at the piano, which was fine, save for a photograph of stern faced relatives staring back at her. In the early days of photography, one of the most common places to have family photos done was at funerals, because it was the only time the vast majority or relatives would be together.
That doesn’t help a child who has to look into those somber faces day after day. One day, she simply couldn’t take it anymore, took a pen and gouged out the grim eyes. And so, she brought the photo into the studio and asked us if we could right the wrong she had so impulsively committed all those years ago?
Turned out, we could.
